Portugal’s Secretary of State for Integration and Migration, Cláudia Pereira, took part in an event to raise awareness and clarify the scope of the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative took place in the Algarve region (Quarteira and Armação de Pêra) and was aimed at labour migrant communities in the region. Here, labour migrants generally work in the tourism sector but also in agriculture, especially harvesting of fruits and vegetables.
During the event, Individual protection kits that contained masks, gloves and disinfectant gel were distributed. Moreover, a leaflet on COVID-19 was released. It is available in Portuguese, English, Bengali, Hindi, Nepalese and Urdu.
Also participating in the event were the Aliens and Borders Office (SEF), the Portuguese Red Cross (CVP), the Authority for Working Conditions (ACT), the Social Security Institute (ISS), the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), the University of Algarve (UALg), AMAL - Algarve Intermunicipal Community, firefighters, police (PSP and GNR) and the Armed Forces.
