EMN logo

The EMN national contact point for the Slovak Republic is organising the 10th EMN educational seminar on migration: Demystifying migration and harnessing its power, from 17 - 19 June in Bratislava, Slovakia.

To promote fact-based work on migration, the 10th edition of the seminar will:

  • examine some of the common myths and misconceptions about migration and migrants, and how they shape public attitudes and narratives;
  • explore the latest policies, data, and migration trends globally and in the EU, as well as the interlinkages between migration, human rights, and state sovereignty;
  • reflect on the plight and dreams of people who have had to flee their homes due to persecution, conflicts, and disasters (in recognition of upcoming World Refugee Day);
  • give special attention to climate migration and its various layers and relations to food security, conflict, irregular migration, and state governance.

The seminar will be interactive and participatory, with opportunities for discussion, reflection, and exchange of views. In the evenings, 2 free public events will take place to further raise awareness of migration topics that are repeatedly part of public discourse in Slovakia and other European countries.

The event is particularly relevant to policymakers, state administration representatives, civil society actors, researchers, teachers, media professionals, and PhD students who are active or interested in learning more about international migration and its implications for the EU and Slovakia, and in engaging in constructive dialogue and action on this matter. Participants will be awarded a certificate of participation.

English and Slovak interpreting will be provided during the seminar's daytime programme. The seminar will be accompanied by an evening programme, which includes a theatre play and a film screening open to the public.

Online registration is open until 31 May 2024. Registration procedures differ for Slovak applicants and those from abroad: find further information via the link above.
