Italy – Associations and authorities providing COVID-19 information in different languages

In Italy, an increasing number of associations and authorities are reaching out to different migrant and linguistic communities by providing information related to COVID-19 (coronavirus) in different languages. See below some of the flyers, videos and audio that they have produced.

News and updates

The inter-ministerial website Integration Migranti and the website of ASGI - Association for Juridical Studies on Immigration provide news and other updates on COVID-19 that is targeted at migrants.

 

Interactive map of services

The association ARCI and UNHCR have created JUMA MAP, an interactive online map showing where to find services for asylum seekers and refugees. They have updating the website to include information and infographics on COVID-19 (in 13 languages). They have also produced podcasts in different languages and publicised regional toll free numbers to call for assistance.

 

Guides and practical information

The website of the Valle d’Aosta Region features a guide on what people should do and where they can go at the moment. The guide is published in Italian, Albanian, Arabic, Chinese, English, French and Spanish. The website also includes translations of the self-declaration form of the Ministry of Interior, currently required to be completed and carried by those who go outside.

The Emilia Romagna Region has published a webpage with links to numerous municipalities, associations and international organisations providing information in different languages.

The Municipality of Ravenna created videos with information in Arabic, Wolof, Bambara, Pashto, French and English. The videos were produced by the association Camera a Sud di Lecce and the FARI project cultural mediators. The municipality also translated guidance on protecting against the virus into 14 languages.

Associations such as Il Grande Colibrì and Naga have translated guidelines of the Ministry of Health and collect and update translations and information. Another association, Cambalache, has created an easy-access information page, #nonseisolo [#youarenotalone], providing practical information on workers’ safety, shop that are still open and the emergency number to call for those without a family doctor. Médicines du Monde Italie is offering this the emergency telephone service in Italian, English and French.

CIR (Italian Council for Refugees) and the association Associazion Diritti per tutti translated the most important points of the 8 March 2020 decree on CODIV-19 of the President of the Council of Ministers into Arab, Urdu, Bengali, Spanish, French and English.

The International Organization for Migration – Italy provides practical information in English, French, Spanish and Italian.

Save the Children – Italy has tips for parents and adults on how to address the concerns of children, with a video to help explain COVID-19 to children.
