Position on the new EU Pact on Migration and Asylum

Untitled

The Consortium of Migrant Assisting Organisations published its position on the new EU Pact on Migration and Asylum. The consortium criticises above all the continued suffering of and difficult access to asylum procedures for asylum seekers, and highlights a lack of legislative clarity and enforceability of the proposed solutions in the Pact.

The consortium welcomes the pact’s focus on the respecting of human rights and on the integration of asylum seekers, as well as its recognition of the importance of labour migration for EU economies. However, it points out that within this focus on labour migration the pact concentrates on highly qualified migrants, rather than paying necessary attention to low- and medium-skilled workers.
