Slovakia: Temporary protection period extended for those displaced from Ukraine

Flag of Slovakia

Between 1 March 2022 and 16 January 2023, 106 277 people fleeing the war in Ukraine arrived in Slovakia, where they were granted temporary protection.

On 16 March 2022, the Government of the Slovak Republic approved a resolution that allowed for the automatic provision of temporary protection status to anyone arriving from Ukraine for one year. Now, this measure has been extended until 4 March 2024, enabling those from Ukraine to stay for longer in the country and to work or study there as necessary.

Those eligible for prolonged protection under the extension can update their permits through the electronic service of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic.
