Slovakia: Accommodation allowance extended for those displaced from Ukraine

Flag of Slovakia

The Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic again extended the accommodation allowance allocated to those fleeing the war in Ukraine, as many cannot yet secure housing using their own resources. This has the additional effect of increasing income in less lucrative areas, in which landlords may have been having difficulty renting out their properties.

This accommodation allowance helps to ensure accessible, stable housing for refugees in Slovakia, which is of pivotal importance in their integration. According to statistics from the Ministry of the Interior, the number of refugees from Ukraine with temporary protection staying in subsidised accommodation is continually decreasing, indicating progress in their integration into Slovak society.

The financial contribution given within the accommodation allowance remains unchanged: 10 EUR per night for those aged over 15, and 5 EUR for those under 15. The maximum amount paid for the accommodation of those from Ukraine in one property is 1 800 euros. Provision of the accommodation allowance is based on the accommodation contract drawn up between the property owner and the tenants.
