Estonia: Year of cultural diversity 2024

Flag of Estonia

Estonia has always been home to different people. Today, there are people of 211 different ethnicities living in Estonia, speaking 243 mother tongues, and holding citizenship of 151 countries. It is the interplay of these distinctive traits at the individual and community level that gives rise to Estonia's cultural diversity. This value, which unites the people of Estonia, will be the focus of the framework for the national 2024 theme year announced by the Ministry of Culture.

The 'Cultural Diversity Year' is organised by the Estonian Integration Foundation. It aims to highlight how much Estonia cherishes both the cultural richness arising from the uniqueness of its communities and people, and the country as a traditionally culturally diverse society.

Integration and preserving social coherence is an ongoing process, and the theme year helps to better understand, appreciate and work to preserve the cultural diversity in Estonia. Through various activities and events, organised throughout the year,   cultural characteristics of communities and people living in Estonia will be recognised, shared and enriched.
