Flag Czech Republic EWSI

On 15 February 2022 the Government of the Czech Republic appointed a new national coordinator for the integration and adaptation of war refugees from Ukraine. As of 21 February 2023 it will be Klára Šimáčková Laurenčíková, who has been acting as the Government Commissioner for Human Rights since May 2022. The position of national coordinator is defined by the government's strategy for handling the refugee crisis.

The coordinator will lead the inter-departmental strategic group for the coordination of the adaptation and integration of refugees from Ukraine. The position focuses on the protection of vulnerable groups of refugees, the promotion of synergies between the health, social, education and security sectors, and the strengthening of cooperation with the Association of Regions, the the Union of Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic, and the NGO sector (to ensure that the adaptation and integration process across regions is unified and of high quality). There will additionally be a regional coordinator position in each region, funded by UNICEF in 2023 - 2024.

The government also approved a document outlining changes to the services of the network of regional assistance centres for Ukraine, the so-called KACPU. These activities are currently provided by individual regions, but from 1 April 2023 the Ministry of the Interior will take over the running of network.
