UNHCR Innovation Space opened a new call for the Refugee-led Innovation Fund which aims to foster innovation among those who have experienced forced displacement. There are no geographical limitations and projects from any country are welcome to apply.
The fund supports activities by organisations led by people with lived experience of forced displacement, including refugees, asylum-seekers, those internally displaced, returnees, and stateless people that are recognised within their communities due to their past significant contributions. The fund accepts applications from both registered and unregistered organisations and pays special attention to organisations led by LGBTIQ+ individuals, women, people with disabilities, Indigenous populations and other underrepresented groups.
The fund provides diverse support to empower refugee-led organisations and build their capacity:
- Financial support – up to 45,000 USD over a maximum period of 18 months
- Programme and project management support
- Technical support, expertise, and coaching
- Peer-to-peer networking
- Learning opportunities

- Implementation details
The fund has a 2-stage application process:
- Expression of interest – organisations must submit a brief expression of interest by 31 May 2024 at 23:59 EST (Panama time; UTC-5) in the language of their preference.
- Full proposal – shortlisted organisations will have a further 3 weeks to submit a full application
