Summer School: Human mobility and global justice

Flag of Italy

The "Human Mobility and Global Justice: Building welcoming and sustainable territories" summer school pursues a repositioning of perspective, placing the analysis of human mobility processes within broader reflections on the question of global justice (in all its implications: economic, political, social, cultural, ethical).

The 12th edition of the school, scheduled from 19 - 22 August 2024, will analyse these intertwined issues by focusing on the challenge of building welcoming territories, questioning the relationship between international migration, demographic crisis and ecological transition and the generative role of society and local actors.

The proceedings will be held in Alghero, a territory particularly exposed to the phenomenon of depopulation and, consequently, to the risks of colonisation by predatory tourism. At the same time, the territory is rich in opportunity when it comes to migrant reception and integration. The school will explore the opportunity to transform hospitality into an opportunity for economic and social revitalisation, local identity into a resource to foster openness to change and innovation, ecological transition into a tool for implementing a sustainable tourism offer, and cultural promotion into a distinctive identity bond capable of catalysing individual and associative commitment.

Further information on the programme can be found in its digital brochure.

The school is organised in partnership between:

  • Fondazione Migrantes della Conferenza Episcopale Italiana
  • Agenzia Scalabriniana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (ASCS)
  • Scalabrini International Migration Institute (SIMI)
  • Fondazione Iniziative e Studi sulla Multietnicità Ente del Terzo Settore (Fondazione ISMU ETS)
  • Diocesi di Alghero Bosa, Ufficio per la Pastorale del tempo libero, turismo e sport

Enrollment is open until 30 June 2024. Details on the enrollment procedure can be found here.
