On 26 October 2022 the Slovak Republic approved a contingency plan for dealing with the emergency context of the mass arrival of people from Ukraine for the period of October 2022 - March 2023.
The plan document focuses on the preparedness of the Slovak Republic and tasks for streamlining procedures, while proposing a precise mechanism for activating the plan. The plan was created based on information received from Ukraine, including discussions with the Ukraine office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Since the context is ever-changing and difficult to predict, the plan will be continuously updated and adapted according to current developments every 3 months.
The contingency plan has five strategic goals:
- to ensure a safe and dignified entry and stay for Ukrainian refugees and nationals of third countries on the territory of the Slovak Republic;
- to ensure access to material, legal, psychosocial and health support for refugees;
- to ensure increased attention and protection for people with specific needs and the most endangered social groups, including victims of violence;
- to ensure provision of services in reception and transit facilities and places of emergency accommodation;
- to ensure capacity for the transport of a large number of refugees in order to relieve the burden of border crossings and transfer nodes within the Slovak Republic.
