Throughout December many events are being organised in Croatia, ahead of celebration of International Migrants' Day (18 December):
The first event is a public panel discussion entitled 'Acts of Care, Stories of Hope', which will take place on 5 December at 19:00 at Multimedia Centre MaMA. The discussion, co-organised with the Centre for Peace Studies, constitutes one of the panels of the Human Rights Film Festival programme. The panel will explore the resilience of solidarity in the context of limited social acceptance and integration prospects for migrants, highlighting how acts of care can create powerful narratives of hope in the face of adversity.
On 7 December there will be a panel discussion entitled 'Appropriation or Exchange? A Discussion on Racism and Culture', in which panelists will analyse relations between dominant and minority groups in the context of access to and participation in various cultural practices and content, clarify the differences between appropriation, fetishisation, and cultural exchange, and provide direct examples of experiences in integration and intercultural relations of minority communities in Croatia. The discussion will take place from 17:00 to 19:00 at Multimedia Center MaMa.
On 13 December, as part of the 'People on the Move' programme, a public conversation entitled 'Transnational Solidarity: Struggle for Freedom' will be held, with guest speaker Seid Ibrahim. The aim of this conversation is to strengthen solidarity through the mutual sharing of knowledge and examples of inclusive cultural practices and daily acts of caring. After the coversation a traditional East African coffee ceremony, accompanied by Eritrean music, will be held. This event will take place from 18:00 to 20:00, also at Multimedia Center MaMa.
On 15 December, from 10:00 to 22:00 in collaboration with the Ribnjak Youth Centre, the Centre for Peace Studies in Zagreb is organising a colourful all-day programme to celebrate International Migrants Day. The programme will include workshops on Iranian and West African dance, art activities such as henna painting and forum theatre, and food tastings from three continents. The day will conclude with musical programme 'Iza ugla – uho svijeta', a concert production of a three-month djembe drum workshop led by Senegalese musician Commi Balde, followed by a vocal duet by Cameroonian and Malawian singers Flo & Maku, who are performing together for the first time for this occasion. They will be followed by the Malian djembefola Bassidi Kone on stage, and the evening will be concluded by the Afro groove band Kaira Kela.
