Migrants and refugees are often in need of specific support when it comes to healthcare, and in particular risk developing psychological health conditions as a result of experiencing trauma or severe stress before, during, and after the migration process. Despite this, and as highlighted in the 2021-2027 EU Action Plan on Integration and Inclusion, they often face multiple obstacles when accessing mental health services. These can include linguistic, financial, administrative, and cultural barriers, as well as others. All such barriers and obstacles to healthcare access undermine their integration and inclusion in all spheres of life, and in addition pose risks to social cohesion in Europe.
With this in mind, and under the framework of the Urban Agenda Partnership for Migrants and Refugees, the European Committee of the Regions, the European Commission and the Council of Europe Development Bank are organising this event to bring together cities and regions from across the EU. Participants will share experiences and good practices on how to improve access to healthcare and mental health support for migrants and refugees.
The hybrid event will be open to the public, with registration closing on 14 October. The full agenda can be accessed online here.
