Cyprus: World refugee day basketball tournament

Flag of Cyprus

In celebration of World Refugee Day 2024, an intercultural 3x3 basketball tournament will be held on 15 June at Grammiko Park Kaimakli in Nicosia, Cyprus.

The event, promoting the message #WithRefugees, aims to bring together individuals from diverse backgrounds, including refugees, locals, and migrants, to foster social cohesion through the universal language of sport.

While refugees and asylum seekers in Cyprus often encounter difficulties such as prolonged asylum processes, limited access to healthcare, hostility and discrimination, the tournament seeks to send a powerful message: peaceful and inclusive coexistence is both possible and essential. By encouraging interaction through sport, the event hopes to break down barriers and promote a more inclusive society.

This event is organised by Generation for Change CY and supported by UNHCR Cyprus, the Nicosia Municipality, and Cyprusbasket.

Registration is required and free of charge. Find further information here
