Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all universities in Poland have suspended classes. Only some classes are held online. At the same time, the Polish government banned leaving home without an important need, in addition to banning public gatherings, meetings and events. In such an unusual situation, foreign students who cannot return home may feel especially lonely.
Therefore, Welcome Point at the University of Warsaw, together with the Volunteer Centre of UW Teams, has initiated an ad-hoc project targeted at foreign students. The initiative is called Multicultural Volunteering Online, and it aims to match Polish and foreign students into pairs or groups so that they can communicate with and support each other via the internet.
Without leaving home or having face-to-face meetings, they can get to know each other, learn about different cultures and improve their knowledge of languages and other skills. The organisers hope that friendships made in this way will last after the ban on leaving home is lifted.
