The Portuguese government announced a 1-year extension, until 30 June 2025, of the validity of documents and visas related to permanence in the national territory. This follows the finalisation of the country's new Migration Action Plan earlier this year.
Further, the country's Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) has been assigned "a proactive mission of attracting migrants" and "assuming and valuing the Observatory for Migration" as part of that government agency.
A resolution was also approved that creates a "mission structure for the recovery of pending processes in AIMA", which will be responsible for "analysing and deciding the pending processes of regularisation of foreigners". This "mission structure" will operate until 2 June 2025 and will see up to 300 staff dedicated to processing the backlog of requests and attending to new applicants.
