The Polish National Labour Inspectorate will pay special attention to companies employing foreign workers as it carries out its 70,000 planned inspections this year. The Inspectorate intends to focus on companies employing workers from Nepal, India and Bangladesh, as economic immigration from these countries has been growing especially fast in Poland over the last few years.

There has been a significant increase in the number of complaints lodged with the Inspectorate by workers from other countries. In 2018, 2,300 foreign workers reported violations of labour laws by their employers. They most often complained about non-payment of wages and illegal deductions from their wages. For example, some employers charged employees for renting work clothes by making the cost of such rentals part of their wages.

In 2019, the Inspectorate will continue to implement the information and education campaign ‘I work legally’, which promotes compliance with labour laws among employers and employees, including foreign workers. Last year, there were 54,000 complaints filed with the Inspectorate.
