A new medical centre will open this week in &al Far, Malta to accommodate COVID-19 patients from the Open Centre for migrants, which is currently under mandatory quarantine following a number of COVID-19 cases there. The new medical centre can accommodate around 150 people.
This centre will be managed by the Agency for the Welfare of Asylum Seekers, in collaboration with doctors, nurses and members from the Malta Red Cross and the health authorities.
The Malta Red Cross had begun operating a clinic near the Open Centre a few weeks ago. These two initiatives will decrease the number of people living together at the Open Centre by 20%, reducing overcrowding and the risk of further transmission.
