The Public Employment Service in Lithuania observed a significant increase in the number of beneficiaries of international protection (BIPs) registered with employment services over the last year, with their number growing from 171 in 2022 to 1600 in 2023 (a 900% increase).

The majority of these new BIPs are from Ukraine, as well as from other countries including Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Belarus, and Russia. According to a representative of the Public Employment Service, BIPs from Russia and Belarus tend to have higher levels of education and professional qualification, however they face difficulties in finding a job that matches their skills due to the language barrier. Meanwhile, BIPs from other countries face difficulties in securing recognition of their previous work experience, as some of them do not have (proof of) professional qualification or lack certain digital or language skills: many are not able to speak Lithuanian, English, or Russian, and some are illiterate.

In Lithuania people with refugee status are mostly employed in restaurants and the manufacturing, domestic cleaning and construction sectors.
