The Ministry of Interior announced the recipients of its latest round of funding under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF/MMIA Plusz in HUN) in early October. This initiative aims to enhance social inclusion and build capacity among local authorities and organisations working with migrants and refugees in Hungary.
The funding, part of 2 recent calls for proposals, targets projects designed to improve integration, support essential services, and offer professional assistance to migrants and asylum seekers. The first call focused on projects that foster social inclusion and aid migrant populations, while the second was geared toward strengthening the capabilities of local government offices and relevant stakeholders involved in migration services.
Among the newly funded initiatives, several notable Hungarian organisations, including members of the Charity Council, other faith-based groups, NGOs, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), have received grants under the MMIA Plusz-2.2.1-24 programme. These groups are committed to offering comprehensive support to third-country nationals (TCNs) through services ranging from housing and healthcare to community integration programmes. Strázsatanya, an organisation providing refuge for Ukrainians with disabilities or other special needs, is among the highlighted recipients in this funding cycle.
Additional grants under the MMIA Plusz-2.2.2-24 programme were awarded to the Menedék-Hungarian Association for Migrants and the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Government Office. The Menedék Association will direct its activities toward empowering local stakeholders in Budapest, while the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Government Office plans to enhance training and resources for employees working directly with people displaced from Ukraine. The Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Government Office plays an essential role in providing humanitarian support for this group, particularly as Eastern Hungary has become a key region for people fleeing the ongoing war in Ukraine.
