Greece: E-learning platform for refugee children

Flag of Greece

The Akelius Foundation and UNICEF launched e-learning language platform Akelius to provide refugee children with support to develop their understanding of the Greek language in a fun, interactive way.

On the platform children can play a variety of games which aim to promote their language knowledge and self-confidence, facilitating their smooth integration into the Greek school environment.

The platform focuses on comprehension of oral and written Greek, and is available in English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish. Course content is designed using a co-creation approach, informed by frequent feedback and collaboration between implementing teachers and UNICEF education specialists.

To date, more than 1 600 teachers in public schools and informal education centres in Greece have been trained in the use of the Akelius platform, and it has been accessed by more than 10 500 children.
