Coping with COVID-19 in Sweden – Labour market integration programmes prolonged

Untitled

On 30 March 2020, the Swedish government announced that the yearly spring budget that will be presented to the parliament on 15 April will include a 12-month extension of various integration measures, in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The programmes that will be extended include:

  • Extra services (extratjänster) – subsidised employment within the public sector
  • Introductory jobs (introduktionsjobb) – subsidised employment for people who need initial help to get into the labour market (can be combined with studying)
  • New start jobs (nystartjobb) – targeted at people who have been unemployed for a long time or have been away from working life (e.g., due to illness)
  • Support for starting a new business

These changes mean that people whose subsidies would expire in the near future can take advantage of jobs that are offered as extra services, introductory jobs and new start jobs for another 12 months. The changes will be temporary.
