The guide is meant to serve local stakeholders and experts assisting refugees in their early integration in Croatia in terms of their initial access to education, employment, and other services. The guide is published by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) Croatia which draws on its experience as the interior ministry's implementing partner in the resettlement of 152 refugees coming from Turkey in the period November 2017 - October 2018, following a 2015 decision of Croatia to accept 150 migrants. The resettlement project intended to provide a comprehensive post-arrival orientation and integration support to the refugees, as well as to assist the capacity building of the relevant national and sub-national stakeholders.
As social services available to beneficiaries of international protection in Croatia have only started to emerge, the manual aims to gather in one place all the information to allow refugees to navigate the Croatian administrative procedures and exercise their rights. It therefore provides information on:
- accessing the educational system;
- accessing health care;
- entering employment;
- benefiting from social services
- finding housing
The manual also cites relevant pieces of legislation and provides lists of key contacts for each type of service. The publication is available in both English and Croatian.
Developed within the pilot project 'Providing refugee resettlement assistance to the government of the Republic of Croatia', the publication of the guide has been financed through the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF).
