In February 2024, the Immigration Directorate of the Ministry of Labour published its semi-annual report on the presence and reception of unaccompanied foreign minors (MSNA).

According to the report, the number of MSNA registered in Italy as of 31 December 2023 is 23 226. They are mostly male (88.4%) and mostly aged 17 (46.1%), 16 (27.3%) and 7-14 years old (13.7%).

These minors were found to have arrived from Egypt (4 667), Ukraine (4 131), Tunisia (2 438), Gambia (2 141) and Guinea (1 925). The report also points out that there has been an increase in the number of minors arriving from Tunisia, Gambia, Guinea and the Ivory Coast, and a decrease in arrivals from Egypt, Albania and Pakistan. The regions that receive the highest number of new arrivals are Sicily (6 061 minors; 26% of the total), Lombardy (2 795; 12%), Emilia-Romagna (1 905; 8.2%) and Campania (1 716; 7.4%).

The report also contains a focus on stories of integration (summarised in an english executive summary), comments by IOM, UNHCR, and UNICEF, and an evalutation of the impact of inclusion projects funded by the Ministry of Labour, such as the PUOI Project.
