Supporting the training and employability of migrants: MiGreat!

The goal of the project is to train a group of migrant trainers (VETPROS) by developing a series of online educational material and a mobile application called Migreat! to facilitate their labour market integration.

The Migreat! mobile application enhances migrants’ social and transversal skills, enabling them to quickly move into the job market or C-VET of their hosting country. The app can be downloaded here.

The consortium consists of KMOP (Greece), Training 2000 (Italy), Elderberry AB (Sweden), BEST Institut (Austria), Elearning Studios (UK) and Glocal Factory (Italy).

Project Goal

Migration flows from third countries had been increasing over the last decade in Europe, accounting to 4.9 per cent of the EU’s population. Simultaneously, Europe is confronted with an ageing population and a shrinking workforce.

According to Eurostat's demographic projections, the working age population will be declining by 0.4% every year between now and 2040. Consequently, countries that effectively integrate their migrant population will have the best prospects to retain their prosperity and face the challenging issue of the ageing working population.

How it works

The project involves the following activities:

  • Identifying the needs of migrants and refugees for CVET and APL (Accreditation of Prior Learning).
  • The development of the Migreat! mobile application which is designed to provide migrants with a basic understanding of the culture, and what it is like to work, live and study in their hosting country.
  • Training modules for migrants and refugees: 10 modules were developed to train migrants on the labour market, employment laws, discrimination, salaries, pension systems, writing a CV and starting a business.
  • Handbook for Vocational Education and Training Professionals (VETPros): a methodology handbook was developed to help the VETPros on how to use the mobile app and the training modules to better foster the labour market integration of migrants.

Results

The projected indicators included:

  • Minimum 200 VETPRO download materials from the website (download records kept).
  • Minimum 1000 'hits' accessing information and guides on the serious game (website statistics kept).
  • Minimum 50 policy makers, educational advisors and researchers participate in the multiplier events (attendance records kept with signatures).
  • Minimum 65 people in each partner country attending the "testing" courses (trainee records kept).
  • Minimum 50 VETPROS use the modules in live training scenarios.

Who benefits

  • Trainees with migrant background.
  • Migrants and refugees.
  • Vocational education and training professionals.

Funding and resources

This project was funded by the Erasmus+ programme of EU, Key Action 2.
