Greece: Traveling cultural centre and festival

Logo with 'La Nomad House' written in black against a white background, with three circus tents - blue, yellow and pink - behind.

La Nomad House is a traveling cultural centre with a focus on issues of migration. Between April and July 2024, the project is traveling across Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy, Tunisia and France, running a free programme of theatrical performances, cultural activities, a photography exhibition, and a series of conferences all revolving around the topic of migration.

In 2023, La Nomad House orchestrated collaborative workshops across partner countries, uniting migrants and professionals from the performing arts sector under the theme of migration. These workshops culminated in the creation of an interdisciplinary performance titled "Le Songe," alongside an exhibition and a series of conferences. Led by various members of the “Le Songe” ensemble, these workshops encompassed dance, song, and theater, with the overarching objective of strengthening narratives surrounding migration.

During the 2024 tour from April to July, La Nomad House will present these artistic creations free of charge. Its tour aims to bridge social divides, challenge stereotypes and cultivatie empathy, in so doing promoting the social inclusion of migrants and transcending borders through the transformative power of culture.

In Greece, performances will form part of a free festival being organised on 22 - 27 May in conjunction with United Societies of Balkans, the Municipality of Thessaloniki and the Mayoralty of Childcare, Family and Civil Society.

The programme includes:

  • 7 performances of “Le Songe”: Wednesday 22 May at 20:00, Thursday 23 May at 20:00, Friday 24 May at 20:00, Saturday 25 May at 13:00 and 20:00 and Sunday 26 May at 13:00 and 19:00;
  • A conference entitled “Exploring Migration from the Perspective of Reception Policies: Humanitarian or Political Crisis?”: 23 May 10:00 - 15:00;
  • An 'associative village' where local associations linked to migration or the socio-cultural sector will present their work on 24 and 25 of May from 17:00 to 21:00;
  • A photographic and multidisciplinary exhibition titled “Beyond Borders”, created by a social and environmental photojournalist, will be open throughout the festival.
