Greece: Online platform opened to facilitate applications for residence from Bangladeshi citizens

Flag of Greece

The Greek government launched an online platform for Bangladeshi nationals who resided in Greece before 9 February 2022 and do not have a residence permit. Here, these individuals will be able to submit residence permit requests from February - July 2023.

Previously, in February 2022, the Government of the Hellenic Republic and the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on migration and mobility. The MoU - attached below - was then ratified by Law 4959/2022 in July 2022. This bilateral agreement sets out the conditions of entry and temporary residence of Bangladeshi nationals for the purpose of temporary employment, respecting the implementation of the 2017 EU-Bangladesh Agreement.

The MoU applies to Bangladeshi nationals who:

  • submit an entry application for the purpose of temporary residence and work;
  • are living in Greek territory at the time of the signing of the MoU;
  • no longer meet the conditions for entry and stay in Greek territory.

For the first five years of implementation of the MoU, 4 000 temporary five-year residence permits are to be granted per year. Further, 15 000 temporary five-year residence permits will be granted to Bangladeshi nationals who are already in Greek territory.
