EMN Estonia and IOM Estonia are hosting a joint conference entitled 'EU's Labour Dilemma: Finding Balance between Local and Migrant Workers'. The conference, taking place on 5 December, will look at addressing EU labour shortages through skilled migration and integration strategies.
As labour demand in Estonia rises due to an ageing population, technological advances, and the green transition, contributions from third-country nationals (TCNs) have become essential. People displaced from Ukraine, in particular, represent a valuable skilled workforce needing recognition and targeted upskilling.
This conference will provide insights into Member States’ challenges, best practices, and policies for adapting to labour market needs. Topics will include strategies to attract skilled workers from outside the EU, skills mobility partnerships, and sustainable migration approaches that align with local economic goals.
The event will also celebrate 20 years of IOM in Estonia and its efforts to enhance labour migration pathways.
The conference will be held in English. Further details and the full agenda can be found here.
