Call for proposals: Media representation and inclusion for refugees and migrants

European Commission logo

Media (re)presentation and visibility of vulnerable groups like migrants and refugees remains marginal in the mainstream social media across the EU, with the exception of the coverage of the consequences of the war against Ukraine. The objective of this European Commission (EC) action grants call is to identify ways to promote inclusive social media in Europe, and to help amplify refugee and migrants’ own narratives about their place and role within European societies and communities.

The call places special emphasis on social media representation in various social networks as well as in other relevant channels (including infotainment, gaming and other). The call is also a direct follow-up of an ongoing project, Re:framing Migrants in the European Media. It researches media representation of migrants and refugees, offers online and offline opportunities for trainings, knowledge sharing, networking and publishing stories, a digital platform to facilitate a community of practice, and allows media practitioners, migrants and artists to cooperate for the production of 100 media works.

The deadline for submission is 15 March 2023. See all related documents and instructions for submitting an application.

The call is managed by the EC’s Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT).
