Slovakia launched a new national project, co-financed by the European Commission's ESF+ programme, to promote the integration of third-country nationals, including migrants. The aim of the project is to ensure systematic, transparent, and efficient provision of funding to municipal entities and non-governmental non-profit organisations working to promote integration. In August and November 2024, various integration-related projects at the civil society and municipal levels were approved.
With the support of this project, several local authorities have already established local integration centers as components of municipal infrastructure, such as the Centre for a Support of Foreigners (Centrum podpory cudzincov) in Košice and Michalovce, as well as - among others - Žilina, Trnava, and Banská Štiavnica.
The initiative is also supporting civil society organizations across the country. These projects, which will run until the end of August 2026, aim to establish a long-term, comprehensive approach to integrating people with a migration background at various levels. It is intended that the funding will support the activities of employees implementing initiatives to promote the long-term integration of this target group.
