Portugal: New programme promotes migrant integration in tourism industry

Flag of Portugal

The recently launched Programme Integrar for Tourism promotes the professional integration of migrants and beneficiaries of international protection in the tourism, hotel and restaurant sectors in Portugal.

The initiative is one of the 60 measures comprising the Accelerate the Economy programme, and is the result of a partnership between Turismo de Portugal (a public agency), the Network of Hotel and Tourism Schools, the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA), and the Confederation of Tourism of Portugal (CTP).

Eligible trainees must:

  • be over 18 years old;
  • have legal status in Portugal;
  • have their usual residence in Portugal;
  • have regular tax status in Portugal;
  • be able to speak Portuguese or English.

Trainees will have access to a training grant, transport and food support. In addition, the programme includes personalised support for around 1 000 people, with the aim of ensuring that everyone can benefit from qualified training and successful integration.

Applications for the programme are open until 31 January 2025. Training will take place between 17 February and 23 May 2025, and ensuing internships will take place in June 2025. Find more information about the programme and details on how to apply here.
