Czech Republic: Additional emergency funding to help those displaced from Ukraine

Flag Czech Republic EWSI

The European Commission has made an additional € 137 million available from its Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) for eight EU countries currently hosting large numbers of refugees, including the Czech Republic.

EU countries receiving this funding can use it to continue providing immediate assistance to refugees, such as food, transport and temporary accommodation, as well as to support the integration of refugees, including such vulnerable groups as unaccompanied minors. Civil society organisations and local and regional authorities have a key role to play in offering assistance, so care is being taken to channel emergency funds to them.

The Czech Republic received CZK 652 million (EUR 27.1 million) under this release, which the Ministry of the Interior announced will be used mainly to compensate for costs related to the provision of follow-up assistance to refugees that have fled Ukraine. Together with the initial emergency aid received to promote the welcome of those displaced from Ukraine, support from the European Commission for the Czech Republic so far amounts to more than CZK 1.3 billion (EUR 54.2 million).
