Bulgaria: Funding opportunity for promotion of intercultural education

The governing body of Bulgaria's Education Programme 2021 - 2027 announces a call for proposals for providing financial support in the area of “Promoting intercultural education through culture, science and sport”.

The main goal of the call is to promote a positive attitude towards diversity in all areas of life. Its specific objectives are:

  • Improving intercultural communication for learning in a multicultural educational environment in educational institutions with different concentrations of vulnerable groups;
  • Promoting effective multicultural communities in educational institutions among participants in the educational process and interaction with stakeholders.

4 types of activity are eligible:

  1. Work with children and students to implement intercultural education.
  2. Training of pedagogical specialists to acquire, develop and apply competences for democratic culture within the framework of intercultural education in a multicultural environment.
  3. Support for intensive work to build a community of active parents.
  4. Carrying out information campaigns aimed at preventing discrimination based on race, ethnic origin or religious affiliation.

The grant procedure is implemented with the financial support of the European Commission's European Social Fund Plus (ESF+). The projects will be implemented on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria in partnership with schools, kindergartens, municipalities, non-profit organisations, and other relevant actors.

The total amount of the grant being allocated under the current procedure is approximately 31 million Bulgarian leva (EUR 15.5 million), which will be distributed according to 3 application deadlines:

  • 22 May 2024
  • 25 September 2024
  • 27 January 2025
