Working together for local integration of migrants and refugees

OECD Logo

Local authorities and other local stakeholders play a key role in integrating newcomers and empowering them to contribute to their new communities. This joint report by the European Commission and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) describes what it takes to formulate a place-based approach to integration through concerted efforts across levels of government as well as between state and non-state actors.

It presents a 12-point checklist any city or region in Europe and beyond can use in their efforts to promote more effective integration of migrants. The report draws on both quantitative evidence from a statistical database and qualitative evidence from a survey conducted in 72 cities, 10 of which were subject to an in-depth case study.

Core results and recommendations of the study are summarised in this factsheet.
