Italy: Toolkit for the integration of unaccompanied minors

Flag of Italy

The "Family for Every Child" alliance launched a toolkit to support social workers and adults working with unaccompanied minors, in order to better foster the integration of these minors. The toolkit has so far been tested in Italy, Greece and Germany, and is the result of a 3-year project that included research on the integration of children travelling alone from the Middle East to Europe.

The main objective of the toolkit is to foster the support for integration and inclusion of unaccompanied children, ensuring that they receive assistance that is sufficiently targeted to their development and well-being. It is built around a model of holistic integration which contains 6 dimensions: foundations; environment; social connectedness; autonomy; personal capacities, and sustainability. Within each dimension, there are key actions and considerations and a ‘practitioner toolbox’ containing tips, resources, and practice examples. There are also ‘top tips’ for practitioners which were provided by migrant children in Italy and Greece.

Currently, the toolkit is available in English, Spanish, Italian and German.
