The Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund Bundesvorstand (DGB), or German Confederation of Trade Unions, member of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), and the German Social Securing Fund’s foundation Foundation Train Social work (BSW&EVG) ran the 2016-2919 Integration Schiene (Integration Rail) initiative.

The initiative provided training, information and advice to third-country nationals (TCNs) on their rights and duties in the context of accessing the labour market, as well as at the workplace. The project provided consulting, coaching and networking, all with the goal of integrating refugees sustainably, with a focus on railway industry, the Deutsche Bahn. It operated in Berlin, Stuttgart, Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, and Munich, and targeted both refugees and asylum seekers.

Through the provision of individual advice and support, the initiative strived towards the comprehensive integration into the world of work, and utilised the support of social networks, businesses and railway company connections.

In addition to the above project, the DGB was also an implementing partner of the German actions within the Asylum, Migration and Integration (AMIF)-funded LABOUR-INT initiative.
