The Polish government has implemented a new benefit to cover school-related expenses of children, such as books or school supplies. Children up to the age of 20, including children of certain categories of foreigners, are now eligible to receive a benefit of 300 PLN (around 70 EUR) to be paid at the beginning of each school year. The amount received will not depend on family income.
Foreigners who want to receive the benefit must possess a residence card with the annotation ‘access to labour market’ (i.e. entitled to work in Poland with or without an obligation to possess a work permit), excluding those who were granted a work permit for a period not exceeding 6 months or admitted for the purpose of studies or seasonal work or entitled to work in Poland on the basis of a visa.
This financial aid for families with school children is part of a new government programme called ‘Good Start’, which may be seen as a follow-up to the ‘Family 500+’ programme. The programme is to be renewed at the beginning of each school year.
