The National Integration Evaluation Mechanism (NIEM) project) published a comparative report that provides an overview of the integration measures taken by the Lithuanian and Latvian governments in response to the sudden influx of irregular migrants across the Belarussian border in the period of June 2021 – January 2022.
The document concludes that measures taken by the Lithuanian and Latvian governments were in many ways similar, with the main divergences stemming from a considerably different number of incomers.
The comparative regional analysis was conducted as part of NIEM project activities that established a mechanism for a biennial, comprehensive evaluation of the integration of beneficiaries of international protection in order to provide evidence on gaps in integration standards, to identify promising practices and to evaluate the effects of legislative and policy changes.
