Highlights

  • The European Commission (EC) continues to support EU countries in welcoming and meeting the needs of those fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This month, it launched a new migration management webpage giving an overview of action by DG HOME, the Commission’s department in charge of migration and home affairs.

  • In order to strengthen the humanitarian assistance being provided to the millions of people that have been displaced from Ukraine, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) launched the Info-Support Hub for Regions and Cities.

  • The European Website on Integration (EWSI) is still tracking the measures and initiatives EU institutions, national governments, civil society and other stakeholders have taken to address the early integration needs of those fleeing Ukraine.

News

The Newcomer Entrepreneurship Support (NES) project published an online handbook and toolkit sharing guidelines, practical recommendations, infographics and examples of good practices for migrant entrepreneurship incubators and support organisations.

 

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), in partnership with the Migration Policy Group (MPG), released a new toolkit entitled 'Effective inclusion of refugees: Participatory approaches for practitioners at the local level'.

 

The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Czech Republic launched a new app to make it easier for migrants to access important information relating to their arrival and integration in the Czech Republic.

 

One of the priorities of Portugal's recently-elected government is "regulated and integrated immigration", with focus on promoting legal entry for migrants seeking employment.

Funding opportunities

BG4UA, a community initiative assisting Ukrainians evacuating to Bulgaria, and BCause Foundation opened the 'New Beginning' call for funding proposals from initiatives that provide childcare and educational activities for children from Ukraine.

The Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports announced two funding calls for initiatives promoting the language learning and 'adaptation' of children fleeing Ukraine.

The Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic announced an extraordinary grants procedure for municipalities, to support the integration of temporary protection holders at the local level in 2022. 

 

Upcoming events

Im Seminar, das im Rahmen des Projekts „Vielfalt Plus“ vom Diakonischen Werk ausgerichtet wird, sollen Anregungen für eine differenzorientierte, egalitäre Bildungsarbeit gegeben werden, die auf die Reflexion von migrationsgesellschaftlichen Dominanzverhältnissen und die Analyse von Identitätskonstruktionen in Schulbüchern abzielen.

 

Der Fachtag “Vielfalt im Bildungskontext“ widmet sich den Bildungsinstitutionen der post-migrantischen deutschen Gesellschaft. Was bedeutet es, in Deutschland mehrsprachig aufzuwachsen und wie hat sich das Feld der Sprachförderung durch Migration verändert? Welche Folgen hatte die vergangene Integrationspolitik der Bundesregierung für den Bildungsbereich?

Azima (an Arabic word meaning 'resilience' or 'inner strength'), is a project that works to strengthen the inner resources and coping strategies of young people with a refugee or migrant background living in Austria, through the provision of psychological and psychosocial services.

Mama lernt Deutsch - F.U.T.U.R.E. Train ist ein Basisbildungsprojekt für Migrantinnen und Flüchtlinge mit Kinderbetreuungspflichten. In diesem Projekt werden Migrantinnen durch deutschsprachige Förderung auf unterschiedlichem Sprachniveau und die Vermittlung von digitalen Kompetenzen unterstützt. Um den Frauen die Teilnahme zu ermöglichen, bietet das Integrationshaus durchgehend Kinderbetreuung an. 

 

The Caleidoscópio project runs community services to combat social exclusion and enhance the integration of the migrant population in Portugal.

 

Documents and publications

This new report analyses criminal charges, outcomes and arrests for men in relation to ethnicity in Denmark. It shows that the risk of being falsely accused of a crime by the police is 27% higher for first generation migrants and 45% higher for second generation migrants than for Danish natives.

 

The ISMU Foundation published its 27th Report on Migration (2021), focusing on demographics, legislation, labour, health-care access, and education, as well as migration processes after the Afghan crisis of 2021 and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on mobilities and migration.
