Swedish Government extends mandate of Delegation for Young and Newcomers into Work

Untitled

Since 2017, the Swedish government has mandated the Delegation for Young and Newcomers into Work (DUA) to promote cooperation between the Public Employment Service and municipalities in order to reduce youth unemployment and speed up the labour market integration of newly arrived immigrants. The government has now extended DUA’s mandate until 28 February 2021.

DUA has been successful in brokering cooperation agreements between the Public Employment Service and municipalities. Out of 290 municipalities, 287 now have such agreements.

DUA has encouraged the expansion of local ‘fast tracks to integration’. These are tailored programmes for newly arrived immigrants that typically include language training, vocational education and internships. This past spring, DUA registered a total of 10,000 participants in fast track programmes.
