According to official statistics, the number of crimes committed on the basis of ethnic, national and racial origin in Poland is low. It is assumed, however, that some of these crimes are not reported to the law enforcement agencies or are not recorded in statistics for other reasons. The aim of the study presented in this report was to discover the attitudes, experiences and opinions of victims of racial violence (e.g. what motivated them to reporting or not reporting crimes to the police). Within the study 25 in-depth interviews with 24 people from various African, Asian and European countries were conducted. Since the purpose of the study was to develop recommendations regarding the provision of assistance to victims, respondents were also asked for their views in this regard.
The report was prepared within the project ‘Victims' survey and information on hate crimes in Poland’, carried out with the support of the German Foundation ‘Remembrance, Responsibility and Future’ (Stiftung ‘Erinnerung, Verantwortung und Zukunft’).
