Owning My Story project promotes migrant and refugee self-advocacy

New Women Connectors - a social change movement led by migrant and refugee women - launched the 'Owning My Story' project, co-funded by the EU's Erasmus+ programme.

The project supports migrant and refugee activists across Europe to reclaim ownership and authorship of their own stories and narratives, and to enhance their self-advocacy through creative tools such as storytelling.

16 applicants from various origins and living in different European countries were selected to take part, based on diversity of background, age, gender, perspectives and migration status. Participants are receiving training in story-telling, advocacy and performance, both online and offline - including via workshops in Finland and the Netherlands - in order to develop performances for policymakers and stakeholders in Brussles. These individual performances will delve into stories from participants' own lives that they wish to share on stage.

The performances will also be recorded and used for an online campaign aiming to increase thoughtful and human voting during the 2024 European Parliament elections (6-9 June 2024). Learn more here.
