Lithuania: Changes to refugee reception system

Flag of Lithuania

In 2025, Lithuania’s Refugee Reception Centre will be restructured to become the Reception and Integration Agency.

The new agency will operate under the Social Security and Labour Ministry, and will focus on provision of support and assistance to all foreigners (rather than only to refugees, as has previously been its mandate).

The agency will oversee provision of temporary accommodation for foreigners by managing and selecting accommodation facilities via public procurement or partnerships. It will also take on some responsibilities previously handled by the State Border Guard Service, including transporting foreigners to accommodation and organising the social services available to them.

As part of the restructuring, the agency will take over 52 roles previously covered by the Foreigners Registration Centre. No additional state budget funds will be required for these changes.
