EU-level report on the status of refugee-led community organisations

The report examines the presence and impact of refugee-led community organisations from the perspective of advocacy targeting primarily the EU institutions.

The document outlines challenges and opportunities to the work of refugee organisations, including in terms of:

  • the need for core funding;
  • capacity building and strengthening communication;
  • meaningful inclusion of refugee organisations by policymakers that goes beyond single-even invitations but involved refugees in policy design;
  • changing the narrative framing refugees as victims and beneficiaries alone

The research was based on secondary data, as well as on ten in-depth interviews with refugees, civil society and policymakers.

The project is funded by Erasmus+, with partners including the Aditus Foundation, Cyprus Refugee CouncilDutch Refugee CouncilEuropean Council on Refugees and ExilesGreek Forum of RefugeesJesuit Refugee Service (Malta)Mosaico – Azioni per i rifugiati, and the Syrian Volunteers Netherlands as associated partners. National-level reports looking at the state of refugee-led organisations in the countries included in the project are available here
