Identibuzz is a multiplatform participatory documentary project that involves citizens in the construction of shared narratives using mobile phones as recording and communication tools. It aims to perform an exercise of citizenship training in the use of ICT's in the embodiment of new audiovisual and digital narratives to share experiences and good practices of integration of immigrant populations in the tissues of the municipalities, placing value on multiculturalism and promotion of interculturalism.

Project Goal

Identibuzz promotes awareness of the reality of foreign groups and aims to de-stigmatize the visions and stereotypes about them in the local citizenry. The project Identibuzz shared stories about the multiple identities to promote knowledge and coexistence, generating a mosaic that reflects diversity. The main objective is to carry out a collaborative and participatory dynamic with groups and individuals from different cultures by bringing together institutions, immigrant associations, neighbors, youth and other social groups with relevance to municipalities, creating a heterogeneous group of participants. The project operates as an excuse to bring together different cultural identities present in municipalities with the aim of creating new social relations of intercultural character.

Who benefits

Participatory dynamic with people from different cultures, both locals and foreigners. It will benefit the general public, it is trans-generational. Over 5,000 people receive information through the project’s website and media. Particularly in the municipality in which the project is carried out.

How it works

  • Phase 1: Production. Contact institutions, associations and relevant officers of municipalities. Research and mapping the territory. Preparation of agendas and manuals.
  • Phase 2: Workshops of audiovisual and digital training. Debates and discussions on challenges and opportunities of the relations between people of different cultures; identification of agents and relevant activities; preparing themes for the interviews; planning of the recordings. Participatory recordings using mobile phones.
  • Phase 3: Edit video and other digital materials
  • Phase 4: Communication and dissemination. Public presentations, talks and debates on the experience. Communication and dissemination in social networks of the development of the project: before, during and after.

Results

8 projects: Bilbao (2), Lisbon, Getxo, Ermua, Portugalete, Vitoria, Tolosa (district). More than 150 participants; 351 interviews; 27 nationalities; 9 documentary; Webcast. High representation of people from different backgrounds present in the territories. Positive reviews of the experience. They claim it serves to get to know and understand other cultures and realities. They value learning to build audiovisual and digital content and using the proposed creative dynamics. The participants share the generated content with their family and social environment in their country of origin and host countries. This creates networks.

Evaluation

Initial evaluation of the pilot project: Community Impact: implications for action in territories, social, cultural, urban and relationship with other agents. Construction of shared visual narratives: processes of participation, learning, personal interaction and use of technology. Supra-local aperture: transfer capability of the pilot project to other realities and contexts. An evaluation of each project is done with the heads of municipalities. The experience and impact of the action is evaluated. Creates knowledge between people and their realities. One of the difficulties is attracting participant, it needs to improve.
