La Nomad House conference on migration

Logo with 'La Nomad House' written in black against a white background, with three circus tents - blue, yellow and pink - behind.

La Nomad House is a traveling cultural centre with a focus on issues of migration. Between April and July 2024, the project will travel across Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy, Tunisia and France. It will offer a free programme in the form of theatrical performances, a photography exhibition, and a series of conferences all revolving around the topic of migration.

The Nomad House project forms part of the Creative Europe programme and is organised by Belgian travelling theatre Compagnie des Nouveaux Disparus, with the help of countries visited.

As part of the project a conference will be organised in Brussels on the theme 'Representations of migrants and migration in cultural practices'. In each country, a conference will be organised on a theme connected to the issue of migration and the specific domestic context.

The conference in Brussels will take place in the tent of the Nouveaux Disparus at Place de Brouckère. The event will be divided into three parts, beginning with an academic discussion lead by Marco Martiniello, professor of sociology of migration at the University of Liège and director of the Centre for Ethnic and Migration Studies (CEDEM), followed by a panel discussion with participants from NGOs, organisations and other local actors. It will conclude with lunch, a visit to the exposition, and a theatre performance.
