Slovenia: New neighbours and the challenges of intercultural coexistence

Title

The international New Neighbours project has been organising, in conjunction with public radio and television, community media and non-governmental organisations, interesting debate on the challenges of intercultural coexistence. Belgium, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain have all been taking part since January 2019.

With the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), public television stations in these nine countries produced documentaries on the challenges of intercultural coexistence faced by 'new neighbours'. In Slovenia, the production of Television Slovenia created a documentary entitled 'A Step Closer', which acted as the starting point for an online conversation. The documentary is available in full here.

In the accompanying online debate, questions were opened such as: how we deal with the topic of migration in Slovenia, why the negative attitude towards migration is reinforced, how the opportunities for immigrant integration are regulated and what are the challenges in this area, and what role do the media or migration play.
