The Portuguese Directorate-General for the Arts (DGARTES) is now accepting artistic proposals from initiatives promoting diversity and active citizenship in Portugal. Funding has been made available via the Partnership Support Programme – Interculturality, which was developed in collaboration with the country's High Commission for Migration (ACM, IP).
With a budget of € 350 000, the main goal of the interculturality programme is to support the implementation of projects that encourage the fusion of cultures and the fight against racism, xenophobia, ethnic or racial discrimination (including anti-Gypsy sentiment) and other intersectional forms of discrimination, and the promotion of diversity and citizenship values.
The programme also works to promote the participation of art professionals with different profiles and origins - including Portuguese Roma citizens, immigrants and their descendants, and refugees - in artistic projects. The aim is to facilitate the inclusion of such individuals in the development of activities on behalf of their communities, their local areas and the country as a whole. Applications should highlight strategic actions which foster intercultural dialogue, contribute to raising awareness of integration issues and the necessity of active citizenship, and attract diverse audiences.
The following types of initiative are eligible:
- visual arts projects (e.g., architecture, plastic arts, design, photography and new media);
- performing arts projects (e.g., circus, dance, music, opera and theatre);
- street art projects;
- projects with disciplinary crossover. are eligible.
