Poland: Financial assistance period extended for hosts of those fleeing Ukraine

Flag of Poland

On 29 April in Poland, the Act on assistance to Ukrainian nationals in connection with the armed conflict on the territory of Ukraine was amended. Under this amendment, the period of eligibility for financial assistance for individuals or companies hosting refugees from Ukraine was extended from 60 to 120 days.

Recipients of this financial assistance are granted PLN 40 (approximately EUR 8.5) per day, per person hosted. Importantly, the assistance is available not only to Polish nationals but also to Ukrainian nationals living in Poland and hosting their own newly arrived family members, including spouses and children. It is assumed that after 120 days most adult refugees will have been able to find a job and become self-reliant, therefore there are no plans for any further extension.

In addition, the amendment introduces the obligation for municipalities to immediately submit - into a newly created online system - the required data in relation to applications submitted for cash benefits for accommodation and meals for Ukrainian nationals. The purpose of this requirement is to prevent abuse of the financial assistance system.
