The one-stop-shop service - or, in Latvian, Vienas pieturas aģentūra (VPA) - run by the Latvian Society Integration Foundation (SIF) has opened 3 new regional branches and broadened the assistance offered. Plans are in place to open another branch, too.
VPA was established at the beginning of 2023 to consolidate information support and other services offered to third-country nationals (TCNs) in Latvia, giving individual consultations on various topics. Since then, it has expanded to offer legal assistance and written translation services, and plans are in place to introduce mental health assistance in 2024.
In 2023 over 3 640 individual consultations were given via the VPA service. The most common questions were related to the issuance of residence permits, finding job opportunities without knowledge of the Latvian language, access to e-services through the national system Latvija.lv, Latvian language learning, and access to healthcare. Translation services were used 260 times.
The three new regional branches are already operational, in Liepāja, Jelgava and Daugavpils, with the fourth set to open in Valmiera in early 2024. Regional centres are run in close cooperation with NGOs, representatives from the private sector, teaching staff and representatives of state and local government institutions.
